new toy

I introduced this new toy to Greta today. It is supposed to attach to the carseat handle but I velcroed it to Greta's bouncy seat toy bar instead. She really enjoyed grabbing at the toys. She grabs at them and then brings her hand to her mouth like she is putting the toy in her mouth. She also talks a bit. Of course, once she sees I have the video camera she plays shy.

3 months

Wow! 3 months sure goes by fast! Greta has changed so much since she was born.

Greta has been sleeping for 12-14 hours at night with usually 1-2 feedings. She has to go to bed around 8pm or she is one cranky baby. The other night we were out most of the day and she didn't get a good nap so she went down for bed at 5:30pm. Greta really needs her naps too. I've started to notice her cues and will put her in her swing right when I notice she is tired. If she gets past the point where she is tired she gets pretty fussy and it's hard to get her to sleep. When she sleeps she likes to lay on her left side (or tummy- see below). She likes to suck on her hand when she's falling asleep. We are able to put her down at night awake and she puts herself to sleep.
She has really started talking. We'll be driving and she'll just be babbling away in her carseat. The other day it sounded like she said "puppy". It also sounds like she says "hi" but I haven't recorded anything as her first official word yet. When I read her stories she'll sometimes look at the pictures and start to talk along with me. I've started trying to teach her sign language.

On May 21, Greta rolled from her back to her tummy for the first time. I knew it would be happening soon because she always goes to her left side when she is trying to fall asleep so all she need to do was to kick her leg over. When I went in to check on her Friday night after I had put her to sleep I noticed she had rolled to her tummy and was sleeping. I gasped and put her on her back. I sat there watching her and in her sleep she rolled back to her tummy. She'll now roll from her back to her tummy when she is tired and trying to go to sleep. I've been straping her in her bouncy seat at night because it worries me to have her sleeping on her tummy when she is still only 3 months old. We have an Angelcare monitor and are getting it setup this weekend so then we'll probably put her back in her pack-n-play bassinet.
What can Greta do at 3 months old?
- reach and feel with open hands
- watch her hands
- babbles as in conversation
- grasp things with her hands and bring things to her mouth to suck on
- wiggles and kicks arms and legs
- laugh
- smile
- sit in her Bumbo chair
- roll over- both ways
- turn head towards mommy and daddy's voices
- eyes follow moving objects and people (including Bijou and Sofie)
- turns toward sounds
- will realize that she doesn't know someone and looks scared
- tries to put both hands around the bottle to hold it while feeding
Greta, we love you so much and enjoy getting to see all the new things you learn to do each day.

happy anniversary

On Monday, Chad and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary. The weather was as beautiful today as it was on our wedding day. Chad took the day off from work and we went to lunch at The Lexington. After lunch, we stopped at Wuollet's next door and ordered cupcakes. We then drove down Grand Avenue to Irvine Park and took some pictures.

resemblance

People are always asking us who Greta looks like. I was looking for some of my baby pictures and ran across a few of me as a baby that I scanned in.

pippi longstockings

I found these adorable tights for Greta this weekend at Gymboree. I just love colorful tights or leg warmers under dresses and skirts. I have to take advantage of being able to dress Greta because before I know it she won't want her mommy to pick out her clothes for her.

Sad face
I love this look
Sofie wanted to get in on the picture action too. You know, she's a model and all.

A little Bijou love
The family. Don't they look happy:)

playing

Greta loves to lay on her activity mat. She was having fun this morning looking at herself in the mirror and then smiling. She would talk to her reflection and then stick her tongue out.

mother's day

"Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother."
-- Lin Yutang

I had a wonderful Mother's Day. I got to spend the day with 3 very important people in my life. We went to brunch at 3 Squares in Maple Grove.
Carol, Greta, and I at brunch. We are so lucky to have Bill and Carol in our lives. They are such special people. Greta loves her Nana Carol.
Daddy and Greta. She was such a good baby at the restaurant.
I'm so happy to have this sweet little girl in my life.

the back-up plan

Greta and I went to another matinee again this Tuesday with our friends Heidi, Mike, and Caden. We saw the movie The Back-up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. It was good movie but these types of romantic comedies are usually right up my alley.

Clearly, you can see Greta enjoyed herself.
